Brian Treadwell, (b. 1977 Georgia, USA) is a Chilean-American artist living in the American south. Treadwell is primarily a self-taught artist working between the traditions of 20th century abstraction and prehistoric and vernacular folk art. In 2001, he earned a B.S. in Mathematics from G.S.U. In Atlanta, Georgia. Though principally a painter, Treadwell also works in drawing, assemblage, sculpture, and sound.

My artworks attempt to reemphasize meditation(s) of color, composition, materiality and the associations of language and symbols. I wish to emphasize visceral reactions over specific ideas. That is to say, commonality over exclusivity. I very much appreciate the notion of artworks as “objects of concentrated energy.” My works are often exercises in “existentialism”—ladden with materials and artifacts from my daily life, with varying degrees of significance. And, in keeping with adage that no one is an island, however personally specific the works may be, I believe they can be appreciated by anyone willing to receive them. The content-saturated, hyper-stimulating barrage of informational stimuli that glazes our brains probably informs my works more than I can figure. Ending this first quarter of the 21st century, it feels as if we Artists find ourselves in an odd predicament: harboring an inexorable desire to create things in a world that increasingly needs nothing. Nonetheless, we go on creating and making. We have to; it's our nature.
