Dan Freeman, a native of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, has been profoundly shaped by the vibrant cultural landscape of the 1960s. His artistic journey began with a Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA) from Temple University’s Tyler School of Art and Architecture, followed by a Master of Fine Arts (MFA) from Queens College (CUNY). He further refined his skills at the esteemed Skowhegan School of Painting and Sculpture. Freeman has received two Artist Fellowships from the National Endowment for the Arts, which recognize his significant contributions to the art world. Throughout his career, he has exhibited at notable venues such as Semaphore Gallery and George Adams Gallery. With a strong commitment to education, Freeman has taught art in the New York City Public Schools and served as an Assistant Professor at the New York Institute of Technology. In 2018, he founded ArtClassBklyn.com, where he offers personalized drawing and painting instruction, inspiring the next generation of artists through his dedication and expertise. His work is included in numerous public and private collections both in the United States and abroad. In the recent paintings featured here, Freeman endeavors to capture what Henri Matisse referred to as the “space between the leaves,” embracing the sheer beauty of flowers as well as narrative . Each painting reflects an autobiographical narrative or poetic element, enriching the viewer's experience.
