Portrait of Jaret Johnston

Jaret L. Johnston is a devotional Visionary Artist whose work documents a relationship with consciousness. Working in paint, music, word and video currently in his Southern California studio, the subject of his work often begins with dreams, visions, patterns and the need for healing. Jaret learned at an early age in Houston, Texas where he was born and raised, ways of coping with trauma: which resulted in a practice of visually or audibly working through emotion to seek respite, amelioration or healing. This led to his understanding of sciences and disciplines now being investigated and popularized within Energy Medicine, Art Therapy and Shamanism. Jaret obtained a B.A. in Studio Painting from Sam Houston State University where he was awarded First Runner Up for the annual Polly Art Awards. Jaret’s goal is to provide to other people a documentary of his experiences, visions and understanding inherent in his personal path. It is Jaret’s desire that others find these healing modalities for personal use and develop a personal relationship with consciousness. Having worked in Entertainment, Graphic Design, Marketing, Mental Health, Shamanism and Agriculture, there is a rich tapestry of experience for which learning became possible, regarding what appear to be disparate trades. The thread which connects all of these disciplines, naturally brings humans further into alignment with consciousness.

I am a devotional visionary artist working in video, with words, music, and painting vociferously. I use the word visionary to describe my work because, although many people viewing my work can find our consensus reality represented in the forms, the source of this imagery transcends what it is to be human. Divination, meditation, breath work, ceremony, dreaming and shamanism are a few of the disciplines with which I engage to source the imagery. I routinely use superposition of a grid, to show how our physical world aligns with the omnipresence of an invisible consciousness pervading all life. I refine the imagery using principles of Sacred Geometry, Lissajous figures, Semiotics or Cymatics. Additive and subtractive techniques are employed, depending on the intention for each project and the medium. As an Archer intends to hit a target through practice, my participation with the above-mentioned disciplines is a specific refinement of the imagery, which feeds consciousness in myself and the viewer.
