Portrait of Margret Wibmer

Margret Wibmer (*Austria) is an internationally renowned visual and performance artist whose work explores the dynamic relationships between bodies, objects, and spaces. After formative years in New York City assisting minimalist artist Sol Lewitt, she relocated to Amsterdam, where she is currently based. Working across various media, her practice bridges the tangible and intangible, inviting audiences to connect with the world and one another in profound and unexpected ways. This becomes particularly apparent in her performances that invite the audience as actors through multi-sensorial experiences. Having grown up in a household where textile was central, it has remained a key material in her artistic practice. Her work has been exhibited globally at venues such as Palais de Tokyo (Paris), RMIT Design Hub (Melbourne), Oude Kerk and Lumen Travo Gallery (Amsterdam), the Nishida Kitaro Museum (Japan) among many others. Her achievements are documented in monographs published by Kerber Verlag and VfmK. Wibmer is an adjunct lecturer at Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts (Singapore), teaching socially engaged art and she performs with and serves as a board member of the Institute for Cultural Activism Interntl. (U.S.)

Love, that most loaded word, is the subject of artist Margret Wibmer’s unapologetically intimate work, Salon d’amour. Without screens or networks, recordings or photo- graphs, love is expressed through language, in the present moment, from one person to another. Adapted for each venue in collaboration with institutions and curators worldwide, the performance involves members of the public as actors through spoken and written word and Wibmer's distinctive wearable masks. These masks foster connection, encouraging participants to bridge divides and engage in a ritual-like journey into new realms. A soundscape by Robert Poss enhances the atmosphere, enriching this unique, immersive experience.
