Paula Sćiuk, a multidisciplinary artist, began refining her visual and conceptual vocabulary at Buffalo State University of New York, where she studied design, painting and sculpture, completing a BA in Design. Since 2007, her large-scale photographic images have been shown in numerous exhibitions, including the Louvre, Paris, France; Times Square, New York City; and Scope, Miami, Florida. Sćiuk explores and captures our vanishing world through her lens-based, field sound work. She has been awarded residencies at the Gullkistan Center for Creativity, Laugarvatn, Iceland, and the Arctic Circle Residency, Svalbard, Norway. Her works are included in the permanent collections of the Burchfield Penney Art Center and Roswell Park Cancer Institute, among other public, corporate, and private collections.

It is preferable to be more intimate with the world, to deeply observe and contemplate what is before me, capturing a vanishing world through my lens based and field sound work. Driven by reverence and wonder, it is solitary and often lonely work, taking great patience, in environments that are mostly unpredictable, sometimes inhospitable and more often, luminous. Natures resources are not limitless and in exploring liminal space, the order of time is suspended and themes of fragility and impermanence surface. Climate change, protection of marine habitat and wildlife, encompass my eco-based work. My artistic practice centers on a deep engagement with the natural world, observing and reflecting upon it through lens based and field sound work. This work, fueled by awe and appreciation, is a solitary journey demanding patience in often challenging yet frequently stunning environments. Through capturing moments of fleeting beauty and exploring the fragility of existence, the themes of impermanence and the critical need to protect our planet's limited resources, particularly marine habitats and wildlife, as climate change impacts our world are explored. The introduction of field and hydrophone recording, began a significant shift and change into my creative practice and process, further developing my visual and sound based work. Most recent, I began exploring a new direction, embracing the integration of 3D plastic with sound, video and selective text.
