Sheila Cuéllar-Shaffer is a contemporary Colombian-American visual artist recognized for her large pastel and bright-colored paintings of women who navigate imaginary landscapes as well as digital compositions that delve into the aesthetics of the indigenous peoples of Colombia. Her work examines the interplay of migration, cultural identity, and the nature of political power. Sheila’s work has been exhibited at the Carnegie Museum of Art, Susquehanna Museum of Art, Kniznick Gallery, The Westmoreland Museum of American Art, Utah Museum of Contemporary Art, and The State Museum of Pennsylvania among others. Her poster Democracy is Power was selected by the Amplifier Foundation to travel nationwide with #powertothepolls. Additionally, she was awarded funds from the Heinz Endowments Just Arts program as Principal Artist of The Billboard Art Project. Based in the Pittsburgh Metro Area, Sheila is the current Vice President of Associated Artists of Pittsburgh. Her work has been mentioned in publications including Forbes.com, Bloomberg CityLab and The Boston Globe.
